So we’ve been kind of slacking on the Boogie updates. We know. We’re sorry. We’ve been taking tons of pictures, but have taken our sweet old time getting them uploaded. And what’s an update on our Little Man without pictures? Well we’ve finally gotten them some uploaded and would like to share them, along with everything he’s been up to, with all of you!
Stranded.
To start things off, we spent last week visiting our parents in Chicago and ended up getting “stranded”. Any of you who live in the Chicagoland area know what a disaster last week/weekend was. We had two straight days of nothing but rain. Then we were hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ike which added another whole day of rain. Major expressways were closed down for days because of flooding, including two in which we use to get back home. This resulted in many roads throughout the area becoming seriously congested fast. So we decided we’d stay in Chicago until they reopened the expressways. After three days had passed, the expressways were still closed, so we decided to just go ahead and bear it out on the roadways. It took us almost three times as long to get back home. On top of that, we found out that they had just reopened the expressways right when we walked in the door!
Here are some pictures we managed to get of the floods in our area…
Remember this was in CHICAGO, over 1,000 miles away from where Hurricane Ike in the Gulf. So just imagine what it was like down there. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those that were affected by Ike. Hurricanes suck.
Guess who’s getting bigger?
Boogie had a doctor’s appointment last Thursday and he checked out wonderful! He currently weighs in at 15lbs. 6.5oz. and is 25in. tall! Our Little Man is getting BIG thanks to mama’s milk! Speaking of which, we’ve started to let him cheat on his diet, but we’ll get on more of this later!
His cradle crunchies (Mommy’s term for cradle cap. Boogie’s auntie calls it cradle crap!) are much better but the doctor said to treat the rest with mineral oil, rub with a brush, then wash it out. We’re going to substitute mineral oil with shea butter oil. Since we ran out of natural baby butter, Jay had an eczema flare up. It would happen when he had an appointment. Anything to make us look like horrible parents. The doctor prescribed 1% hydrocortisone. She recommended 2.5% but since we’re in between doctors, she wants our next doctor to prescribe the higher dose so that he/she can monitor it. Per Mommy’s orders, we’re going to stick with natural baby butter. We told her how well it worked, but we just ran out. She also prescribed an antibiotic cream for his rosy cheeks and recommended he have an allergy test done. We try to use the mildest of products, but the culprit of Boogie’s flareups could be something we’re overlooking, or it could be something Mommy’s eating. We can’t wait until we get the test done so we can get to the bottom of the problem. His skin’s looking better, so we haven’t used any of the creams. Jaymi whipped us up a batch of Bee Good To Your Baby Butter and we are loving it. Oh and we can’t forget about the Shea Radiance Baby Butter that we were using previously. Both products work wonders on his baby rolls!
Still wet, gummy smiles!
He’s still a drool machine but no teeth yet! He puts everything and everyone in his mouth! Humphreys teething pellets, pure vanilla extract, Razbaby teethers, wubbanubs, and washcloths have been managing to keep him happy!
Backyard Boogie!
Now that Fall has begun, we’re trying to enjoy the warm weather as much as we can before it starts to cool down. We spent some time out in Daddy’s mother’s backyard last week and snapped many pictures of Boogie. We originally took some in the sun and hated how they turned out. Boogie’s face was all orange and there were shadows everywhere. So we relocated to a shady spot and they turned out wonderful!
More from this set can be found here.
As you can see, he absolutely loves being on his tummy! He still hasn’t started crawling yet, but he rolls over like nobody’s business! We had him laid out on his stomach on his activity gym yesterday and he wouldn’t stay put for five seconds before rolling over onto his back and giggling!
“Hmm so these things are good for something besides kicking Daddy!”
He’s also not too fond of being propped up. He loves to stand and giggles like crazy every time we do stand him up!
So we are currently planning to buy an ExerSaucer, or something of the like, to satisfy his need to stand up!
We let him cheat on his diet!
On the 11th our Little Man had his very first solids, carrots, and he absolutely loved them! Check him out grubbin’ down:
We also have a video taken that day of him eating the carrots and we’ll try to get it uploaded soon! Since then he’s also had bananas and rice cereal. He wasn’t too fond of the cereal, as we figured when he gave us the “This crap is nasty!” look when we tried to feed it to him! Other than that, he seems to be enjoying solids!
Simply enjoying life!
Daddy is loving life as a father, Mommy is loving life as a mother, and as you can see, Boogie is just loving life period! Being a family is beautiful, and we’re enjoying every aspect of it!

Oh how adorable is he!? Niecey would not eat rice cereal without fruit mixed in, plain cereal is not very appetizing I guess.
I heard Chicago got hit with a lot of rain but didn’t hear that it got THAT bad! Glad it didn’t hit here too bad, Iowa is still recovering from the flooding from before, it is all dried up but the damage left behind will take time and cost millions to repair, and many farmers lost their crops.
Has he stopped scratching himself so much, I notice he isn’t wearing socks on his hands in the pics? Seems weird to see his cute little hands being used to seeing him rocking the socks look, no matter what he sports he is gorgeous!
He is just to dang cute!! And that smile!!!
Wow he is getting big that little man!!! And oh what a cutiepie he is!!!!
