New Year’s Chalkboard Party Hats

chalkboardpartyhats

Happy New Year! Well… almost New Year! How are you celebrating? We are celebrating the day with cupcakes, cocoa, and board games. When the boys are older, we’ll celebrate like adults, but for now, it’s all about them! To make things a little special, I whipped up some cute party hats using supplies I had laying around. With party hats from Juicy’s first birthday and two of my favorite crafting items; chalkboard paint and glitter spray paint, I was able to come up with some fun hats on the fly! Hope these inspire you!

Instructions

First, I sprayed the party hats with black spray paint and let them dry for a few hours. As a primer, this allowed me to only have to use one light coat of chalkboard paint. Of course you can eliminate these two steps by using a chalkboard spray paint.

Once the spray paint dried, I brushed on a coat of chalkboard paint and let it dry for a few hours.

After the chalkboard paint dried, I lightly dusted the upper portion of the hats with gold glitter spray paint. On the brim of the hats, I sprayed on a much heavier coat.

I decorated the tips of the hats with gold glitter glue and hot-glued some feathers on. After letting everything set and dry overnight, I decorated the hats with chalk for the new year.
