I’ve seen quite a few commercials for microderabration products and I’ve seen a selection in stores. I’ve always thought to myself hmm that seems cool, but I’m not old enough for that. In the commercials, the main focus would be on firming the skin and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. And well, I have neither. SkinCareRx offered to send me a microdermabrasion home system. The rep helped me understand the purpose of Microdermabrasion. It is known to improve early texture changes, sun damaged skin, uneven sun freckling, mild acne, and conditions where there is a buildup of dead skin.
Did he say mild acne? Hello! Every once and a while, I experience a breakout where clusters of fine bumps/whiteheads will appear on my right cheek and jawbone…like the ones that sprouted as I headed to BlogHer. It never fails, my skin always breaks out before a business trip. If it ain’t whiteheads, it’s those pesky hives or both.
So since I have these occasional breakouts, I agreed to try the Microderm. I figured I’d be able to precisely exfoliate the problematic areas versus hoping the beads in my St. Ives Apricot Scrub did the job. I’ve had the Microderm for 3 weeks and the instructions recommend doing treatments once a week. I’ve only done 3 treatments, twice with the sensitive disc and once with the medium disc. I can’t say that I’ve seen any outstanding results yet. When I used the system, I witnessed thin layers of skin being lifted up which is definitely the first step to curing breakouts. To those wondering what it feels like, hmm, kind of like lightly filing your face. The stronger the disc, the more aggressive the treatment will feel towards your skin.
I will continue using the Microderm on my face. I think it’s potentially a great product. I do worry about replacing the discs after every 3 treatments because that can get expensive. And since I am a rebel and don’t like jumping from product to product when it comes to my face, I’ll continue using my Total Skin Care Trio (it was a gift). It’s recommended that I use M2 products with the Microderm for the best results. I think I’ll be fine.
