New Additions to Our Backyard!

Since giving our outdoor living space a makeover, I have been on an outdoor high! Since my last update, the blueberry and hazelnut trees have been planted in large pots and I’m considering planting peach and apple trees since Jayden keeps asking for both of those fruits. Where am I gonna put them? I dunno, we’re running out of space! But mama will find a way for her baby to have his apple and peach trees. Oh, and the garden is thriving, too. I’ll give a more in depth update with a complete list of what we’re growing soon!

So, last week, we picked up some more outdoor goodies for backyard, courtesy of Walmart. The window bird feeder that I intended to use wasn’t a good fit for our patio door. I didn’t think about the screen that would get in the way. So while at Walmart, I grabbed a bird feeder, feeder pole, and seeds. I love that the bird feeder is versatile, it can be hung or placed on a pole. The feeder pole has two hooks for more bird feeders. I may hang a hummingbird feeder and/or small lanterns from the hooks.

Since we put out the bird feeder, our backyard has been a wildlife party! We already had one bunny who was a regular visitor, but now there’s two, a squirrel, and birds! I’m itching to photograph the cardinals that stop by on occasion.

The crazy weather took a toll on my dear Azaleas. Luckily, they are perennials, so they’ll be back next year. Since losing quite a bit of color from the Azaleas, I decided to pick up some Marigolds and Salvia’s for the baskets originally intended for the herbs.

Marigolds and Salvia’s are easy to take care of and they can withstand drought-like conditions in the event we forget to water them. We haven’t had to worry about that lately! It’s been raining lions, tigers, hyenas, and toucans!

‘Tis a lovely floral arrangement if I don’t say so myself ;).

Since the Marigolds and Salvias are crashing where the herbs were going to be planted, I picked up some window planters for the herbs and set them on the bistro table. I had some leftover Marigolds that were half dead and half that hadn’t bloomed, so I planted them in a small pot I had on hand. Waste not, want not!

For the tomatoes, I picked up a large pot and tomato cage and a coco basket for our lettuce. I may raise the basket up a bit. I’m not sure if it’s critter-proof. If not, I’ll plant some flowers or a plant in the basket and find another spot for lettuce.

While making my way through my shopping list, I grabbed some potting soil, gardening gloves, and a cover for our swing, too. I didn’t photograph them, because they were pretty basic materials, nothin’ fancy!

And last, but not least, I couldn’t resist this Little Tikes basketball hoop for the Boogs. I’ll admit, it was the first item on my shopping list. To my defense, he needed it. He’s always sneaking off to the neighbors’ spot to play with theirs. And now he has a hoop of his own :). Justified!

So… how much did I spend?

Flowers: $9.56
Planters & Cage: $35.47
Bird Feeding: $29.91
Basket Ball Hoop: $29.97
Potting Soil & Gloves (not pictured): $9.35
Swing Cover (not pictured either): $15.00
Total: $138.31 including tax!

I’d say our backyard is about 95% complete! Oh, I’ve got more up my sleeve ;).

What are you doing in your yard(s)? I’d love to know!

  1. Your planters look great! I just love the self watering planters myself-I forget to water frequently enough otherwise. Hope your little dude is enjoying his “new” backyard!

Looking great! I’ve just gotten some blueberry bushes too. I was told to get at least two different varieties because it helps with cross-pollination yielding more blueberries in the future. So not only are they tasty, you have a great science lesson too, LOL!

    • Sheena says:

Oh, I’m glad you said something because I almost bought the same variety again! Good to know! Thank you!

What a sweet yard and with such green grass! I love the play grill. Adorable. I myself planted seeds. Nothing has come up yet.

  8. So glad to see you’ve included Jaden in the outdoor plans! We have that same little hoop for our smallest grandsons to use when they visit!

  9. Lori Z. says:

Little Man must love it–it’s looking good! Although, blueberry bushes usually need two plants for cross pollination so you may need to go grab another, since from the looks of it you have only one.

    • Sheena says:

      Thanks!

Shoot, didn’t know that. Will consult with the nursery I purchased it from. Thanks for the heads up!
