Since the weather’s been so lovely (lovelier than usual for Chicagoland), we’ve gotten a head start on gardening. Last year, Jayden was so interested in helping in the garden, but since it was our first container garden, I didn’t want him to break it. Blame the OCD (we worked hard that garden). Now that we have a season under our belts, I’m letting Jayden have his own little corner of the garden that he can care for. I’m hoping this little project helps build his nurturing character and love of veggies.
The folks at Seeds of Change sent us a Kids Garden Starter Kit (organic lettuce and carrots) to help Jayden on his mission. It was really simple to use… let me walk you all through the process.

The first step was to pour the organic planting mix into the biodegradable planting pots.
The next step was to moisten the mix and then place the seeds in pots. Jayden placed four carrot seeds in each corner of the left pot and sprinkled the lettuce into the right pot.
There was a little planting mix left over, so he sprinkled the rest on top of the seeds and pat it down. I then, placed the windowsill tray in our germination station in front of our office window. In just three days, we saw some sprouting! Stay tuned for an update and more gardening with Seeds of Change!
