So I’ve been consumed in making a lot of changes behind the scenes. I am my own “tech guy” so it’s one or the other… content or tech work. Paired with life, being pregnant, and a lack of motivation to blog about the mundane, I only have been making time for things that keep our bellies fed and our bodies sheltered and warm. While I always seem to entertain the idea of paying someone for services, I quickly come to my senses. I’m cheap, OCD, and don’t like the vulnerability that comes with that. I’d rather have the know-how so I can immediately fix things as needed. I get so irritated when I need something done and have to wait for an answer… which is often canned and useless or too late.
That said, I’ve finally upgraded to a VPS (virtual private server). It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for about a year, but I wasn’t really liking the plans that I’ve researched and I didn’t really want to deal with packing things up and moving. But with recent downtime starting last Spring, I couldn’t stand being on a shared server anymore. It seemed like every time I ATTEMPTED to be a better blogger, everything would go down, quite frequently while away on business trips. I was tired of that and although I’ve done pretty much all I could to make my sites less resource heavy (delete plugins, code things manually, schedule cron jobs, optimize, etc.), I decided to upgrade anyway… and just before the baby arrives.
New RSS FEED & Newsletter Services
Feedburner has always been unreliable, but with the recent drama and predicted death of the service, I decided to leave. So to the 4 people who read my blog*, please make sure that you are subscribed using sophistishe.com/feed and NOT feeds.feedburner.com/sophistishe. If you initially subscribed using sophistishe.com/feed, then you are fine!
I’ve also been trying to get a newsletter set up for about a year. I’ve sent out maybe 3 emails back when I was on Google Friend Connect, but then they went away and I lost my subscribers. I switched to MailChimp and started from scratch only to find out during the Feedburner scare, that MailChimp doesn’t take kindly to using affiliate links whether within newsletter content or if linking to content containing affiliate links. Annoying! So I switched to another service and all is finally well. If you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter, here’s the link to sign up. I will not spam you, I promise. And as a thanks, I will be offering subscriber only gifts/giveaways.
So that’s that. I’m still working on some things. If you run into any errors, please let me know. I’d greatly appreciate you speaking up. Well, I’m off to catch up on everything that I’ve been putting off. Depending on my productivity, there may be 2-3 posts going up in the course of a day. Gotta do what I gotta do to pay for all these service upgrades and to rid my inbox of follow-ups.
