Monday night’s weather forecast predicted a big snow storm here in the snowbelt. I didn’t want to believe it because weather predictions are frequently off and it’s MARCH for crying out loud! But who am I kidding? Snow in March here in the midwest isn’t so far fetched. I’m just in denial and excited for the Spring festivities to begin. I am so excited to be gardening again. Since Winter is obviously still here, I thought I’d share a few things that have helped get me through this Winter season.
Day Light is Crucial
Being a self-employed night owl has its pros and cons. I have the freedom to be productive through the night and sleep when I choose, but I feel my best when I wake up with the sun. This is especially important during short Winter days. During the Winter, we spend less time outside so it’s easy to become deficient in vitamin D. I try to sit in front of our big 6ft wide window to soak up some rays. I’ve also replaced all of our light bulbs with daylight bulbs. They really help add vibrant cheer to our home. They work WONDERS for my indoor photography too.
Be Creative
Since we spend more time inside of the house, I try to stay busy by doing crafts, home decor projects, and experimenting in the kitchen. I am currently perfecting my gumbo and cheesecake recipes and planning smoothie and baby food recipes. I’m also shopping for a small living room makeover and I’m gathering ideas for painting a portion of our bedroom.
Listen to Music
Music makes everything better. I have a routine of listening to music while taking my morning shower. It helps set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Whenever I’m in the kitchen, I turn on the radio as well. It makes long tasks like browning roux and doing dishes… fun. Jayden loves dancing in the kitchen, so the combo it makes for great family time.
Go Outside
Notice how I saved this for last? Hahaha! Although the temperatures can be quite nippy, it is still important to go out and get some fresh air – after bundling up of course! No Winter is complete without playing in the snow pre and post snow storm! The last snow we got, we had the opportunity to go sledding. Greg and I took turns watching Jaxon in the toasty warm car while the other played with Jayden. The sled we bought was very fitting. I spotted it at Walmart and I had to grab it. It matched Boogie’s coat perfectly and had snowboogie written on it. It’s supposed to be warming up so we’ll have to go a few more times before it melts.
What are some things that have gotten you through the Winter season? When drafting up this post, I had at least ten, but I didn’t want this to be an insanely long read. If you have any tips, feel free to share in the comments!
