Life in the Backseat

When you have kids, you realize pretty quickly how important having spacious backseats are. We are still shopping around for an SUV because our little Ford Taurus is getting cramped. The two car seats take up most of the room. If anyone else has to ride with us, they squeeze in the middle. On the floor, we keep blankets, baby carriers, hats and sunnies.

When Jayden was in school, the backseat was home to all of his little projects we forgot to take inside. Our car often looks like we live in it and that’s okay. The littles don’t mind as we cruise with the windows down with the music playing… Jayden giving us his latest renditions of Diamonds (Shine bright like a booty!) as he holds baby’s hand. Jaxon joining in with his best squawk and coo combo (Ahh goo. Eek! Eeh!).

If your backseat could tell its story, what would it say?

Subaru wants to promote the all-new 2014 Subaru ForesterⓇ by talking about life in the backseat. They have put together several videos featuring drivers’ favorite backseat stories and would love for you to watch as well as join the conversation with your own stories for a chance to win $1,000. Below is one of my favorite videos. It reminds me so much of Jaxon :).

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Subaru. The opinions and text are all mine.

I remember how spacious clean my backseat used to be. Now there are toys and crumbs everywhere. This morning I opened the door and was hit with the aroma of some type of rotten something. Apparently there’s a forgotten food product hiding back there somewhere. Not good on a day when the temperature high is expected to be in the 90′s. lol smh…

Ahh, backseats. I remember how cramped the backseat of my car (a Kia Spectra — a compact!) was when we first had an infant seat and a larger carseat, then two carseats, and then two booster seats. It’s not so bad now that we’re down to just one backless booster, but even when we ditch that the kids will be bigger, and thus the amount of space available will be about the same — or even less. I fantasize about a mini-van, and sticking one kid in each row, but I’ll contend myself with good gas mileage and the ability to squeeze into small parking spaces, lol.
