Sunscreen Wipes: It’s the end of summer and I discover them now.

Taken May 2010 – See the sunscreen?

I have a grudge against suncreen. It takes forever to rub in and it is almost impossible to do when applying on a toddler who hates it. Jayden gets enough of being rubbed down daily with his Eczema remedies, so when it comes time to apply sunscreen, he throws a hissy. Because of this, I cannot throughly rub it in resulting in an ashy glow. *points up*

I received an invite to participate in a blog tour for Shady Day Daily Sun Protection Wipes. I read over the key selling points. “Sunscreen wipes? Seriously? Paraben free? Water resistant? Why am I just learning about these?”, I thought. Immediately, I agreed to join the tour.

Daily Sun Protection Wipes are gentle and provide extra moisture, which is very beneficial to Jayden’s Eczema ridden skin. Using these wipes make applying sunscreen on my antsy toddler much easier. Jayden loves wiping himself with wipes, so I am able to give him a wipe to occupy himself as I’m applying with another. Now, he and I don’t have to fight anymore and he no longer has to walk around with a an unattractive white glaze over his skin. They smell good too; clean and citrus-y. Satisfied I am. Now if only his Eczema remedies came in wipe form…

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Shady Day and received a sample package of SPF 30 Shady Day Daily Sun Protection Wipes and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

SALONPAS: Stick it where it hurts.

When it comes to taking medicine especially for aches and pains, I am stubborn. I am a wait-it-out kind of girl. I just don’t like the idea of popping pills, although I did so this morning because my head and eyes were pounding me out of my dreams. For muscle aches, I typically try taking a hot shower to relieve some of the pain, but the occasional pesky shoulder or back ache requires a little more.

I was introduced to a topical non-messy pain relieving solution in the form of a patch by Salonpas. I was sent a few to try, and while I thought I’d have some pain to test them on, I didn’t. However, I tested them to the best of my ability.

Unlike over the counter oral medication, the active ingredient (NSAID aka Oil of Wintergreen) in these FDA approved patches is absorbed through the skin and goes straight to the area of tenderness. Salonpas relieves mild to moderate pain – a 7/10 on the pain scale for 12-24 hours compared to over the counter pain pills that only reach a 3/10 and must be taken every 2-8 hours. The patches are very flexible, so they are easy to wear. I probably would have forgotten about the patch I applied to my leg if it weren’t for the minty vapors and the soothing tingly sensation.

Since I didn’t have an ache to relieve this time around, I will edit this post after applying Salonpas on a problematic spot.

Wet Wrap Therapy Update: He Doesn't Need It

012 copy

In this post, I was all gung-ho about trying wet wrap therapy on Jayden’s skin. Well…he doesn’t need it. We tried one night and he only stayed in his footie pjs for about 20 minutes before taking them off. He then, air dried in his thin thermal pjs and changed into a new pair.

Anyway, his skin has been improving DRASTICALLY since I’ve started rubbing chickweed extract on his skin! I mix it in his Un-petroleum Jelly and confession…Aquaphor. If Un-petroleum Jelly was sold in a large jar, I’d dump Aquaphor cold turkey. Since mixing chickweed in with the “jellies”, the itching has been relieved, dry patches are minimal, and his skin tone is lightening up.

He’s been soaking in the tub every two days or so. We add a little olive oil to the water. Yes, it makes the tub slippery, which is why we sit in the bathroom with him. The baths have been beneficial to the softening on his skin. I can see why some people decide to limit baths because the constant exposure to water may dry out the skin. But if you have proper emollients on hand, there shouldn’t be a problem. Emollients work much better on wet skin.

Will probably wrap problem areas in gauze.

At this point, it isn’t a matter of what products to use because I’ve concocted gold. The secret’s in the chickweed. He will continue taking his probiotic vitamin and cod liver oil whether they helped alleviate his Eczema or not. We will also drop chickweed tea bags in his baths. We tried ordering chickweed tea TWICE from two different sellers and it was out of stock. There’s a long ridiculous story behind trying to order from the second seller. I’ve decided to cut the drama by starting an organic chickweed garden of my own since it’s pretty easy to grow. Sometimes you just have to do things on your own…
