Eureka Clean Living Vac: Functional & Affordable

3

Our first vacuum was a little $30 Dirt Devil we purchased in college. We never considered replacing the lil’ Dirt Devil with something more powerful until having a kid who turned into a major crumb magnet. I had tested some Dyson vacuums and explored the beauty of them, drooled and wished to have such a luxury in my home. And I do, a DC31 (which was sent to me) and I love it. There’s nothing wrong with Dyson vacuums. They have their pros. They have their cons (price). And even if their pros justify their price tag, some people just don’t have that kind of money to spend when they need a vaccum immediately.

There are other vacuums out there that aren’t as hyped up, but they actually perform well. Take Eureka vacuums for instance. I grew up using a Eureka vacuum and it seemed we had that thing forever. They sure have come a long way. Eureka offered to let us test their new Clean Living Bagless Vacuum. It’s a great vacuum for households like ours with allergies. It has On-Guard antimicrobial capabilities, and prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria on the brushroll bristles and parts of the dust cup. Its HEPA filter captures 99.97 percent of dust and pet dander and the flip-bottom dust cup helps to keep fine allergens away from the user while emptying. With our Dirt Devil, we had to take the top off of the cup and dump it upside-down into the trash. There was always a cloud of dust that flew up into the air, so having the Clean Living’s flip-bottom cup is a plus.

The Clean Living Vacuum has a cool circular handle that adjusts to a comfortable height. Its sidekicks include a dusting brush and upholstery nozzle for getting in those harder to reach areas. Stepping on the handle release to recline the vac was a bit awkward for me because you have to angle your foot to the left to get it to release. So you have to wiggle your foot left-right instead of just stepping dead center top-bottom to release.

The sound is not overbearing. Surprisingly, it hums. Greg (aka hubby in case you’re a new reader) can actually stand using it. He’s like a cat when it comes to the sound of high pitched motor sounds. He has to seek shelter; fast. We have a flat berber carpet, so we have the carpet setting on bare floor. Doing so makes sure that the maximum amount of crumbs and dirt are picked up. It also makes it easier to push. The lower the setting, the easier it glides. It almost self-propels which is very convenient.

The Eureka Clean Living Vacuum is a standard 24 pounds of weight. That’s a few pounds heavier than I’d like to have attached to a vacuum, but despite its solid build, it excels at getting the job done at an affordable price. Each time I use it, I’m amazed at how much dirt it picks up.

It’s important to perform regular maintenance on any vacuum. Some people just buy them, toss the manuals, and expect them to last without putting in a little work. A regular maintenance schedule for the Clean Living Vac would look like so:

  • Empty dust cup after each use or when it reaches max fill line.
  • Rinse dust cup filter after each use. Let dry before replacing.
  • Clean brush roll to remove any debris monthly.
  • Replace worn or cut belts and filters every 6-12 months to avoid clogging and premature motor failure.
  • Wipe and dust vacuum exterior as needed.

I love this vacuum! My only issue is that the belt broke. Have you had to replace it yet? If so, where did you get your belt from?

@SimplyC, I haven’t had to replace mine yet. Yours should have come with an extra belt along with the instructions. I’d contact Eureka’s customer service or you can email me (sheena at iriemade dot com) your inquiry and I can get Eureka’s PR team right on it for you.

So I decided I will be going with a Eureka from Walmart. Glad I saw your review

@Sheliza, woohoo! I know you’ll love it. It was exciting to test out these vacuums. They kinda put Dyson in their place, lol.

I am looking for a new vac right now and I had remembered that you reviewed one. I was wondering if this one has the long, round filter in the dust cup. That would be the only things that would scare me away. I read a lot of reviews and almost all of them were very good. I am willing to pay up to $200 for a new vac but $89 sounds even more appealing!
