Five Ways to Use Lavender Essential Oil

The scent of lavender is classic and soothing. It’s a member of the mint family and its purple shade is so beautiful that a color was named after it! Lavender is often utilized as an ornamental plant, a culinary herb, and for essential oil extraction. It also contains medicinal qualities, especially in the practice of aromatherapy. In the past decade, essential oils have surged in popularity, and lavender is one of stars of the show. Aside from using lavender essential oil neat (undiluted, as a perfume), here are five other great ways to incorporate it into your daily life:

Bath Salt

Bath salts are incredibly easy and inexpensive to make. Simply purchase Epsom salt and baking soda, mix equal parts in a bowl, and fold in several sprinkles of lavender essential oil. Add a cup of the mixture to a warm bath and soak your stress away. The salts draw toxins from your body, the baking soda softens skin, and the lavender scent lingers long after you’ve dried off. Lavender’s aroma is a known sleep aid, so these baths are best taken before bed.

Whipped Body Butter

Nothing can be easier than making whipped body butter. Simply purchase a large jar of organic coconut oil, scoop into a bowl, and beat with a mixer until an icing-like texture is achieved. Sprinkle lavender essential oil into the body butter, mix again, and store in a mason jar. Coconut oil has a low melting point, so store your body butter in a cool, dry place, including the refrigerator if necessary. Your skin will never be softer!

Diffuse

Essential oil diffusers are all the rage these days. Purchase one online and follow the instructions for diffusing diluted essential oils in your home. Lavender essential oil is extremely soothing to inhale and your house will smell fabulous.

Linen Spray

Fill a large spray bottle with distilled water and add several drops of lavender essential oil. Spray on sheets, curtains, and even carpet to refresh. Do so on a hidden area the first time to ensure staining doesn’t occur. Your linens will be lightly scented and sprayed pillows will aid in a good night’s rest.

Hair Detangler

Purchase a small glass spray bottle and fill it with distilled water. Add several drops of argan oil and lavender essential oil. Use this spray each day to achieve smooth, tangle-free hair. Your locks will also be lightly scented with the soothing smell of lavender. This spray is excellent to use on children’s hair. The argan oil makes tresses healthier and shinier as well.

Lavender essential oil is the perfect oil to have at home. It’s delightful and versatile and its uses are endless. It’s best to purchase organic lavender essential oil to ensure you’re getting the highest quality product available on the market. A little goes a long way and a small bottle will last you some time. Lavender’s been used throughout the centuries by people all over the world to improve their daily lives. Give it a try!

I had no idea that you could use lavender eo as a detangler. I think it'll make a nice spray for my sons dreads! Also I was gifted some amazing body butter from an event and the smell was intoxicating, I small part of me died a little when I ran out but it never occurred to me to make my own when I ran out, this will be my weekend self care project.
