Fresh Start: Fitness Preparations

It’s time for another update as I prep myself to achieve a healthier, fit, beautiful me.

Oh. My. Goodness. Where do I even start? To be honest, I am overwhelmed. I have been equipped with so many fitness goodies, I just don’t know what to do with myself.

To start, Walmart teamed up with Microsoft and had a (surprise) Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle sent to my house! To make sure that I get moving, Walmart included a package with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, Michael Jackson: The Experience Wii, and EA Sports Active Wii!

It didn’t stop there.

They also sent me a kettlebell set and gave me a gift card to purchase even more fitness items!

Did I hit the fitness lottery?

With my gift card, I ordered Jillian Michaels 3 in 1 Aerobic Step Deck, The Firm: Balance Trainer Kit, Shake Weight for Women, Zumba Fitness Wii, and Nickelodeon Fit Wii (for Jayden).

Oh and I have some other really cool fitness items that I received (outside of this campaign); the Kymaro Rhythm Rocker, Amira Mor: Belly Dance, and Skechers Shape-ups.

Can you see why I’m so overwhelmed? Eventually, I will try everything out and report back sharing my experience. I’m really excited, it’s just gonna take me a while to get going.

I am so serious.

And because there is no way I’m going to be exercising without making sure that I don’t lose weight, I bought myself a weight gain shake (at Vitacost) that promises mass and energy. Gaining extra mass is extra important to me because I am trying to gain 10lbs. I’m trying to bulk up especially in my arms. The Naturade shakes taste so good, kind of like cupcake batter or a buttery infant cereal. I like to add some raw sugar for sweetness. This stuff is no joke. Two shakes has enough calories to get me through the day, so drinking them on top of eating regular meals (no room for skimpin’) is just what I need. Within just a few days of drinking the shakes (sometimes mixed in my waffles) in addition to eating my regular meals, I gained one pound!

Today, I lost it.

I wasn’t prepared for what consuming extra protein would do to my digestive system. There’s no way to sugarcoat this folks… the shakes gave me an offensive case of gas. Gas that could peel the paint off of the walls, clear out a whole room. Tired of smothering my family with flatulence, I decided to slow down on the shakes, leading to the 1lb shed that I worked SO hard for.

So, if I want to get serious about gaining 10lbs, I’m going to have to come up with a plan B or fight the funk and try again.

Do you have any fitness goals this year? What are you doing to make sure you achieve them?

I am a member of the Walmart Moms program. Walmart has provided me with a gift card (for food & fitness equipment) and compensation to share my journey to healthier living with you as part of the Fresh Start Challenge. Participation is voluntary and as usual, all opinions are my own.

Wow, you seem to have great start on your fitness goals! As far as the gas though (funny, but not funny) I would water down my shakes. They make me feel heavy and bloated so I rarely drink them. When I do, I mix more water/juice/soy milk and less shake mix. Hope it helps.

LOL an offensive amt of gas :)

    That made me smile.

You know I think you’d really enjoy p90x! Im doing it and am on week 3, i feel great! Got a long way to go tho.

I dont want to gain but I am. I started p90x around 112, im up to 114 – but I look skinnier, but stronger. If that makes sense :)

I did 60 days of p90x before Owen and gained weight with it too.

@Drea, I had to keep it real!

I have been looking at p90x. I wondered if it was something I’d want to do now. I thought it would be too much for what I’m trying to achieve, but you said you gained a few pounds doing it, so I’ll give it a go. I’m 109lbs now. Greg’s getting it for himself. I told him I’d train with him after our second child, but I may as well give it a go sooner. After all, a healthy and fit mama makes healthy babies! Will check out the shakes as well!

Wow, that’s a lot of great tools you have there. What exactly are those kettle bells for? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of them.

Personally, I’m in a weight loss mode. So far down 7lbs and about 30 more to go.

Way to go, Cat! Here’s the description of the kettlebell set, I’m just as lost as you are, lol:

“The Ultimate Vinyl Kettleball Set will tone you up and slim you down with each movement. It’s a total-body workout that integrates cardio with strength so you get the full benefits of each exercise.”

It came with a DVD, so I’ll eventually figure them out.

Please, oh, please – If you find any weight-gain shakes/bars/etc. that work well, taste “edible”, and actually work without costing a small fortune, let me know! I. too, need to add about 10 lbs. and am afriad of doing all the exercise I really need to do for fear of losing any more weight. I was so proud that I kept 15 lbs. of baby-weight on for a year after my little guy was born (and I breastfed!) Well, it all melted away and I’m back to where I started. Keep sharing how it’s going and what you’re doing to get fit AND gain. This is the first post I’ve seen that isn’t focused on losing!
