Last Saturday, we had the opportunity to attend a Shine On Saturday at GapKids at Westfield Old Orchard Mall. When we walked into the store, we were greeted by a very helpful employee who asked if Jayden would like to make a journal. She helped him through the process of choosing the cover, tape, and stickers he wanted to use and led him to the tiny human sized table and chairs. I had no idea that it was journal day, I must have missed the schedule. I was hoping that he could paint a canvas for his room, but we can certainly do that at home following Merrilee Liddiard’s instructions :-).

At the table, Jayden was free to decorate and color his journal to his heart’s content… as long as he was careful as to not use up all the stickers and markers as they anticipated more kids coming in. Sharing is caring! His favorite stickers were the pearly-ones. And as you can see from the chevron pattern that he chose, he has an eye for the extraordinary, even if there are hints of purple and magenta present.

Shine On Saturdays are being held through August and select GapKids stores across the country will be hosting. Children will express their creativity by creating geometric masterpieces on canvas using paint and tape, and colorful, custom journals to get them ready for back-to-school! There’s one more event in Chicago coming up this Saturday where the littles will make an animal character badge. If you’re looking for something to do, I highly suggest going!

Aww :-(. Oak Brook for the next event would be too far to travel for some arts and crafts, I'm sure, lol. That's about how long it took us to get to Skokie... but when blogging duties call... :-)
