Going Even Bolder This Winter With SheaMoisture

So let’s talk about the elephant in the room, y’all. My hair or lack thereof. I announced the second big chop of my life on Instagram and then just went on about my business. Similar to what happened after having Jayden 8 years ago, I needed a break from having to maintain my hair… so I loc’d it. Best decision ever. But after having baby Akilah, I once again needed a break from maintaining my hair that just kept growing and growing and growing. So last spring, I shaved it aaall the way off and it was soooo freeing.

I spent the last few months not having to do much to my hair, washing it multiple times a week just because I could. I didn’t have to worry about the extensiveness of washing and re-twisting because I got sand or chlorine in my hair or needed to get photos for the blog. It was time to let it go because ain’t nobody got time for hair, especially since I have a new little head of hair to focus on. After shaving my hair off at least five times after this new chop, I’ve decided that maybe I want to grow it out. Since it has grown out a bit, I decided to make yet another bold move and color it a funky MAGENTA and I looove it. I used to dye some of my locs, but bleaching lead to the demise of the locs that I did dye. Coloring has been super easy to maintain now since my hair is short. I’m going to really have fun with funky colors this winter.

I had a friend ask me what I’ve been using in my hair and my answer was none other than SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus line. I’m a junkie and always stock up on the products when I can. Curl Enhancing Smoothie has been my go-to styling product. I’m talking a spritz of water, the smoothie, a little oil for shine and boom. Done. I’ve also been using the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner after washes. Since I’m growing my hair out, I decided to also pick up the Shampoo and Conditioner from the same line as well. It’s perfect because it’s color safe and stimulates hair growth. Being that I am playing in color, it’s also great to use products that strengthens my hair since lightening can make the hair fragile, but YOLO, mmkay? My hair also gets dryer during the winter so I’ll probably be picking up the Raw Shea Butter Moisture products as it gets cooler outside.

I love that I can pick up SheaMoisture at my local Walmart. And guess what folks? They aren’t just in the multicultural section of the store anymore, they are also in with the General Market Hair Care aisle because SheaMoisture is a brand that makes products for eeeeeevery kind of normal.

I’m partnering with SheaMoisture to share how I’m using their fabulous products on my hair. My routine is super simple, but obviously gets complicated when you’re shooting the process alone in your bathroom, hiding from kids who want personal photo shoots, their hair done too, and to climb up your tripod. #momlife

Hello, viewfinder.

I start off with the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo. I’ve been shampooing vs copooing lately. Once it gets cooler, I’ll probably start copooing for extra moisture.

This is what locking yourself in the bathroom so you can shoot a hair pictorial, but your toddler’s on the other side of the door asking for you to take his picture… looks like. Oh, and your pants are drenched because the shower head decided to attack you while attempting to wash your hair and shoot said pictorial.

Next, I apply the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Conditioner, comb out my hair, and let my hair marinate under a plastic cap for at least 10 minutes.

Once I rinse out the conditioner and towel dry my hair, I apply my jam; Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

After working the product in with my fingers, I brush my hair out with my Wet Brush, then I’m good to go!
