There’s something about Spring that puts me in the mood to craft. I’d like to do more crafts with Jayden, but I am totally against creating things that will eventually end up in the garbage. You know how it is, so many crafts, so little house. So when Walmart asked me to make mini wooden Easter baskets, I had to make these little suckers useful.
I glanced at this tutorial and did my own thing. I have a problem with NOT following instructions and I guess that’s what I get because I purchased the wrong craft sticks. I had to improvise by cutting them, but they still got the job done.
Materials
Paint Brushes
Fuzzy Sticks
Watercolor Paint
Mini Wood Craft Sticks (I bought the wrong ones)
Scissors
Paper Cup (I used a disposable cup we already had)
Craft Glue
I begin this craft by cutting my disposable cup and poking holes on the sides to accommodate the handles.
Since I goofed on the craft sticks, I have to cut them down a bit. I then, painted my sticks and let them dry.
Next, I grabbed my glue and began gluing the sticks to the cup.
Before I covered the holes with the craft sticks, I threaded a fuzzy stick through one hole and bent it a bit to secure it to the cup. To create a swirl, I twirled the fuzzy stick around my finger a few times.
After twirling the fuzzy stick, I threaded it through the other hole of the cup, bent it to secure it, and finished gluing the craft sticks to the cup.
I wasn’t too thrilled with this one, so I had to do a second take. Jayden begged to differ. He thought mommy did a good job (In his words, “Ooo you did a good job. I like it.”) and helped himself to the mini basket inspired by his beanie.
Okay, enough cuteness, back to basket number two.
In the second basket, I cut the the cup and craft sticks shorter, and wrapped two fuzzy sticks around the top and bottom of the basket.
I also painted the back of the craft sticks and twisted two fuzzy sticks together to make my handle.
And because I wanted to make use of these baskets, I thought it would be a great idea to use them as planters to plant wheat grass or seeds for the garden. What better way to get the most out of a craft and keep the kids excited, right?
