You know that feeling when you’re so busy with the demands of your day and your family’s needs that you feel like you’re constantly operating on high alert? There is no time even to think, let alone find some “you time.” But don’t worry, you’re not alone. There’s a lot of pressure on moms to be perfect in every possible way. We are inundated with images of supermodel-esque women who are brilliant home cooks, avid yogis, scrapbookers, and successful careerwomen.

Adding to this impossible standard is the expectation that mothers should also have tight-knit relationships with their children. Along with immaculate houses and extensive social calendars. So how do you find a little time for yourself with so many things demanding your precious time?

Don’t Feel Guilty About Making Yourself A Priority

Being a mom is hard work. There are many things to organize and tasks to keep on top of. But you don’t have to worry about carving out some time for yourself. You have to look after yourself to have the energy to look after your family. If you are feeling stressed, tired, and frazzled, your family will feel that. And they won’t benefit from having a frazzled mom. You have to take care of yourself to be the best mom you can be.

Grab Some Solo Time In The Morning

If you have the luxury of setting your own schedule, you can take advantage of some “me time” by squeezing in some time for yourself in the morning. You can dedicate this time to reading, journaling, or even taking a long, luxurious bath. Give yourself permission to do whatever calms you down and helps you de-stress. Make sure to put your regular morning routine on hold until you’ve had your “me” time. Once you’ve enjoyed your quiet moment, you can return to being a super mom.

Take A Walk

We all know that walking is an excellent form of exercise, but it’s also a fantastic way to clear your head and get your thoughts straight. Find a quiet path in your neighborhood, or walk around the block with a friend. A walk gives you the space to focus on your thoughts and feelings. You can use this time to focus on your goals or sort out any issues you’re dealing with. You can also use this opportunity to ask for guidance and healing for your family or friends. Walking is also a great way to get some fresh air and sunlight, which are essential for good health.

Block Out One Day Each Week For “You Time”

If you need to carve out a specific time each week where you have “you” time, then make sure you do it. If possible, try to schedule your “you” day on a day when your kids don’t have school or extracurricular activities. Having a day where you know that you have time to yourself can make a huge difference in your stress levels and help you avoid feeling overwhelmed. It doesn’t have to be anything special, but make sure it’s something that you genuinely enjoy. Whether reading, going for a walk, getting a manicure and pedicure, visiting the hair salon, or seeing a movie – make sure that you schedule it.

Make A Point Of Saying No

There will be times you’re invited to do something or go somewhere. And you’ll want to say yes. That’s fine and normal, but when you’re feeling overwhelmed, try to make a habit of saying no more often. Other people’s expectations won’t go away just because you ignore them. In fact, they’ll probably just get louder and more demanding. So, you must learn how to turn down invitations without feeling guilty. You can do this by coming up with a standard line to use when you need to decline an invitation. Something like, “I appreciate the invitation, but I have other plans that day,” works well.
