Natural Home: Eliminating Summer Flies The Eco Way

Summer’s here which means trips to the beach, park-hopping, and lazing around with the windows open. It also means that we’re running in and out of the house more often. Quickly getting five people through the door can be a feat at times, which means fliiiiies. Between the kids leaving the doors wide open and our increase in fruit consumption, our kitchen and living room becomes a hot spot for flying insects every summer. During the evenings, they congregate in our kitchen as they are mesmerized by our stove light.

As the designated fly-swatting extraordinaire, you can find me doing my karate chop backspin combo with my oven mitts before bedtime. Admittedly… swatting flies is as gratifying as shooting hoops through a basketball net. Does that make me craaaaazy? Possibly.

But do I really want to spend my summer nights swatting at flies and tearing up my blinds… because oh em gee the incessant buzzing and dancing in my peripheral, and the realization that these ninjas are multiplying is enough to drive me bonkers. This summer, I’m hanging up my boxing gloves, uh oven mitts and only using them for their intended purpose.

Because Zevo.

Zevo was sent to us compliments of its creators. Zevo is chemical-free solution to reducing flying insect activity. It’s a trapping device that plugs into an outlet and handles flying insects for up to a month at a time. Yes, a whole month sans swatting flies… oh and mosquitos too! How could I forget about those lil’ buggers who sneak in for an occasional Tatum snack?

We received two Zevo starter kits. Each kit contains one device and two recyclable trap cartridges. Since our living space is small, we only need one device plugged in at a time. I put a device in our kitchen where we receive the most activity from flying insects. I found that above our counter-top and trash cabinet was the most suitable spot for our Zevo to work effectively.

You may be wondering how the Zevo device works.

Zevo works best in gateway rooms such as covered patios, garages, kitchens, and entryways. We all know that flying bugs are attracted to light so that subtle blue glow is what lures them in. The device uses a blue and UV light mixture that mimics the sun and moon’s navigational light patterns to attract and trap flying bugs to a super sticky adhesive. With Zevo, there’s no mess, smell, or noise.

I am excited to see how Zevo eliminates pesky flies in our home all summer long. It’ll be one less thing to worry about and get riled up over. I’m all about protecting my peace and house flies are definitely not invited on the journey.

This looks like the perfect thing I need this summer for those annoying bugs. I love the simple design and light too.

I hope we have it here locally. Looks like a great product - especially perfect for our home. We have been seeing an abundance of flies because of the transition period from summer to rainy season.

We have so many flies coming in through the door to the garden. This sounds like a good way to get rid of them.
