Holiday Craft: DIY Floral Centerpiece

centerpiece

I’ve been bitten by the holiday craft bug. My wreath project left me inspired and since I am trying my best to make sure every nook and cranny is decked for the holidays, I decided to keep crafting. In the kitchen, I like to put out festive placemats and towels, but other than that, I don’t do too much decorating in there for the holidays. Well this year, I decided to change that. I decided to do a simple, small floral centerpiece for our kitchen table. To be honest, I winged it, but I am so happy with the way it turned out! At one point I started day dreaming about planning events… and then I had to snap out of it!

Materials

All items can be found at Walmart.

Fresh Mini Roses & Baby’s Breath
Wreath Picks
Small Glass Vase
Ornaments
Twine or Ribbon
Snow Filling
Water Bottle (optional)

Instructions

I made a small water reservoir to keep the flowers fresh longer, but it’s totally optional if preparing for a one day event.

Optional Water Resevoir
Cut water bottle, leaving 3 inches of the base to be used for water storage. Place pebbles or a rock inside as a weight. Set aside.

Line bottom of vase with a small amount of snow filling. A long pair of scissors can be used to arrange snow inside of vase.

Place water reservoir inside vase. Fill reservoir with water. I poured water in from a water bottle for preciseness.

Fill in gaps between reservoir and vase with more snow filling. It’s ok if some makes it into the reservoir. This will actually keep the ornaments out of the water.

Trim fresh flowers and place them into the vase making sure the stems are inside of the reservoir. Start filling vase with ornaments.

When vase is half full with ornaments, add wreath picks and continue to fill with ornaments.

Wrap twine around the neck of vase and tie into a bow. Hang larger ornament on wreath pick.

I really enjoyed doing this project and it’s affordable and simple enough to recreate year ’round when I’m looking to spruce things up around the house. Now I don’t have any excuse to just toss flowers in a vase of water.

Have you ever put together a floral arrangement? If not, are you more inclined to try now?
