Part 2: Sprucing Up Our Outdoor Living Space With Kmart

So today is the day that I reveal our outdoor living space. Honestly, I’ve been stressing out about the garden because I keep hitting some road blocks (like buying 600lbs of not-so-great soil, a fence #fail, and rain barrel back-and-forthness) and the appearance of the patio because I feel like something is missing, like it isn’t lavish enough. The patio concrete is such an eyesore, so I’m going to add some color by making a patio rug myself. My herbs are not ready to be planted in the hanging coco planters, and the blueberry and hazelnut trees still need to be planted. But what I have done so far is practical for our rental space and oh so pretty (from different angles), so I need to get over it right?

Before

025 - Before

So here’s the before once more. Plain patio. Old grill against the wall. Hanging planter that I grew green peppers in last year. Yard tools in the corner, along with the trash and recycle receptacles (can’t do much with them except stash them behind the shed).

See from different angles it looks pretty darn good. Did you see my… I mean.. our gorgeous grill!? Boogie has one too. I am thrilled at how things have come together so far, but as a final reveal? Nope, not calling it that just yet! Those of you who guessed that most of the items on our wishlist came from Kmart, well you were right! Everything except the DIY Garden supplies: Soil, Compost, and Mulch, Heirloom Vegetable Seeds, Fruit/Nut Trees, Chicken Wire, U Posts, Snip Pliers, PVC Pipes, Composting Worms, Hose Bibb, Downspout Filter. I should also note the items that I already had on hand: Step 2 Double Slide Climber, Bistro Patio Set, Mini Glass Table, Hanging Coco Planters, Dishes (on the table), Teapot, Placemats, Bamboo, and Bonsai Tree. Tomorrow, I will share details on how we planned and executed this makeover and how much we spent – any guesses?

I know I asked this in the previous post, but if you haven’t answered already, I’d love to hear about what you’re doing in your outdoor living spaces. If you have any posts you’d like to share, feel free!

SOOOO jealous! I got a charcoal grill last year that my son put together over the weekend, as well as the patio set I picked up on clearance (it was ~1600 originally, I got it for a little over $400). I also got a patio umbrella with a gift card I had, and I have all my planters I bought last year. I just need some patio lights and I'll be set.... the yard itself will have to wait until next year.

I see those butterfly lights now. Hazelnut and bluberry tress are interesting choices the kind I like.I love bonsai. My yard unfortunately is not getting much attention this year for various reasons. I am glad others are enjoying sprucing up.

I am loving that grill, we have a Kmart right by us and I was wondering about how much the grill cost? I know Kmart has great prices. That grill is just beautiful :) Carmen
