Projects Made Simple: Jayden’s Chalkboard Wall

DIY Chalkboard Wall

As of late, I haven’t been too thrilled about home improvement projects, but I committed to one last project while I was still giddy. The reason for my lack of enthusiasm is that we are planning to move in the next few months, so all my purdying up will soon be undone… and I’m gonna have to do it all over again… if I feel like it.

This last home improvement project was actually simple and I have plenty of supplies left for the new place. I decided to give Jayden’s room a splash of chalkboard paint since he likes to draw and needs another reason to go to his room and give Mommy & Daddy a break, lol. Using a tutorial from Walmart’s Projects Made Simple, I completed the project in about an hour. Since the paint is thin and runny, it dried pretty fast, so I didn’t wait the four hours in between each coat of paint. I applied three coats, which only took 15 ounces of chalkboard paint. I was thinking I’d need 60 ounces (two small cans), but 15 ounces is all I needed and the outcome was beautiful.

Materials I Used

Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint
Painter’s Tape
Drop Cloth
Paint Brush
Foam Roller
Tray Kit
Bowl of Water & Rag for Cleanup

Below is a quick video of me painting Jayden’s wall with chalkboard paint from start to finish. Jayden doesn’t know that it’s chalkboard paint, I didn’t tell him because I didn’t want him drawing on it ’til this weekend, when the paint is fully set on to the wall. I’m probably going to hang up some artwork above the chalkboard just so that space doesn’t look so nekkid. I’m happy with the results, I just wish we were able to enjoy it longer!

Have you ever worked with chalkboard paint? What did you use it for?

I am a member of the Walmart Moms program. Walmart is compensating me for sharing this DIY project. My participation is voluntary and all words and opinions are always my own.
