AT&T GoPhone Paired With The HTC Desire 610

With today’s tough economy, cellphone contracts are becoming a thing of the past. What’s funny is that years ago, I saw having a contract as sort of a status symbol because for many years Greg and I had been on prepaid no-contract plans with sub-par phones. Now, I highly recommend them and will jump providers/plans to save money for my family. Since the non-contract movement has taken off, many providers are stepping up their phone selection. We recently had the opportunity to experience Walmart’s exclusive AT&T GoPhone rate plan paired with the HTC Desire 610 smartphone. This exclusive plan offers unlimited talk, text & 1 GB 4G LTE data for only $45/month. Extra data is available for $10 per 100 MB for browsing the web or using apps.

I’m totally impressed by the HTC Desire 610. You wouldn’t be able to guess that it’s a no-contract phone. The HTC Desire 610 is pre-loaded with Android (KitKat). The design is sleek and lightweight. When I took it out of the box, I ooo and ahh’d. I did find it weird that the battery door doesn’t come off. Not being able to access the battery made me feel a little vulnerable, but I can get with the times. Since the battery door is sealed, the sim card and microSD slots are both in a compartment on the top left of the phone. Speaking of the microSD card slot, the phone itself can store up to 8GB in addition to 64GB on a microSD card.

Activating the GoPhone service was a piece of cake. After entering a few codes and restarting the device, I was set. In typical Android fashion, I was prompted to set up my Google account. After syncing my account to the phone, I proceeded to download a few of my favorite apps… including Mr. Number, because apparently the number I received had been recycled pretty quickly. My phone started blowing up with calls and text messages from people as soon as I activated it. No bueno.

I also downloaded some of my favorite music apps to stream music through my Soundfreaq Bluetooth speaker. The HTC Desire 610 features a 4.7″ super LCD touchscreen with 480 x 854 pixel resolution. The graphic quality is great and the touchscreen is very responsive. Speaking of graphic quality, let’s talk about the camera quality.

The HTC Desire 610 features a rear 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and front 1.3 megapixel camera. Photos come out pretty decent using the rear camera. Photo editing apps like Instagram and VSCO Cam make them shine. The photos above were taken with the rear camera, no edits other than collaging.

At the price point of $199.98, the HTC Desire 610 is a great non-contract phone. Walmart’s exclusive GoPhone rate of $45/month is pretty tempting as I’m currently paying $50/month. Yes, five dollars makes a difference and it goes a long way. If transferring my old number can be done with ease, I just may go for it. Aaaand now I’ll leave you guys with a photo of the your favorite blog loaded. I kid, I kid. 😉
