My Preschooler Codes! + Code-a-Pillar Giveaway

Preschoolers Can Learn Code, Too!

This post is sponsored by Fisher-Price. Thanks for supporting the brands that we believe in!

It’s amazing how quickly children catch on to things when exposed to them early. Both of the boys were navigating their way on laptops  before the age of two. With two parents who spend a great deal of time working on devices, it’s only natural that they’ve followed suit. Jayden received his first Kindle on his 4th birthday and Juicy got one for his 3rd, although he’d been hijacking Jayden’s long before then.

Each and every year, technology evolves and expands, gifting children with advanced learning tools that challenge them and aid in their development. It’s truly an amazing boom; one that we openly embrace.

Have you ever thought about how much our lives are impacted by technology? From the cars that we drive, the appliances we use, to the life saving devices that aid in our health care and livelihood. It’s all technology that relies on coding, a programming language unique to its own device. Coding is our future and with technology constantly evolving, it’ll always be high in demand.

It’s never too early to introduce children to this form of technology, in fact children as young as three years of age can learn basic coding skills with age appropriate toys. Fisher-Price, a classic brand we all know and love, is inspiring little learners to be big thinkers with their new Think & Learn Code-a-Pillar. They sent Juicy his very own Code-a-Pillar to spark his imagination.

The Code-a-Pillar comes with a caterpillar base, 8 interchangeable segment pieces, and start and finish target discs. Segment expansion packs are available to create a much longer caterpillar and sequence. Each segment signals a different action, sending the caterpillar in a different direction every time.

I love that this toy teaches problem solving and critical thinking using a hands-on approach. This is something you just can’t get from an app on a screen. This is a toy that fosters curiosity and experimentation in an exciting new way for little ones. We’ve been utilizing devices to keep the Juicy one entertained, because work still must be done and peace must be had. I’m happy to see him take interest in a more hands-on alternative.

The Code-a-Pillar is definitely a toy of the 21st century; sleek with engaging sounds and vibrant lights that illuminate whenever he’s in action. When you pet his head, he even responds! We’ve tested the Code-a-Pillar on a few surfaces; hard tile, carpet, and flat rugs. I’m sure he was designed with hard, flat surfaces in mind, but he’s able to get around on carpet just fine.

Juicy is still learning how the Code-a-Pillar’s segments work, but he’s been having so much  fun arranging, rearranging, and watching him go. With the help of his brother, I see them both creating some pretty interesting scenarios and obstacle courses to bust any summer boredom they may have.

We’re impressed with the Code-a-Pillar and it’s efforts to encourage open-ended discovery, a key component to lifelong learning. If you’d like to pick up one of these little guys for your kiddos, you can do so from the Fisher-Price Shop, Amazon, Walmart, or try your luck at winning one here!
