Small Home Projects To Complete NOW

toyhammockphotowall

The holidays are behind us. We’ve entered a new year and, for some of us, a loooong draining winter season. Now is the perfect time to set the tone for a prosperous year, get busy and tackle those nagging home projects you’ve been ignoring. Oh, you know what I’m talking about. The broken hinge on the armoire. The flattened pillows that need replacing. The photo wall you’ve been meaning to complete. Those.

We have plenty of those around and I’ve decided to start tackling them one by one. Here are two super easy and inexpensive projects that I’ve been putting off for years. Please tell me I’m not the only one!

Organize Toys

Christmas happened and so did a lot of toys. I had purged toys before the holiday and purged some more afterwards. I’ve made a rule to keep what fits in two toy boxes and a few cubbies, exceptions made for ride on/push toys of course. What I didn’t factor in were plush toys. They don’t cause much trouble as long as they’re in bed, but they usually end up all over the floor.

Sooo to address this issue, I ordered the Dreambaby Toy Hammock and Toy Chain from Walmart to house the boys’ friends. At $11.95, the set is such a great deal. We only needed the hammock, but I’m sure we can make use of the chain in the future.

The hammock came with all hardware necessary to mount above Jayden’s bed. He quickly helped me fill it up with buddies after installation.

I can’t believe I’ve had this hammock on my “home” wishlist for over 2 years. Geeze.

Frame Art

The next long awaited project was tackled simply by purchasing a 3pk of my favorite 8×10 frames by Mainstays. Three for $10.97 is my kind of bargain. So I’ve shared a few photos at our kitchen table and each time that I share a photo, I cringe a little at my OMG CAKE print that I slapped up with painter’s tape, not even cute washi tape. It’s been waiting for a frame for months.

Of course by the time I decided to frame it, it had been splattered with water. Luckily, I had a larger unsplattered copy on the reverse side.

I designed the print myself after seeing a black and white version in a designer kitchen tour. The frame makes a heck of a difference. Love it!

The kitchen wasn’t the only place harboring slapped up art. Months ago, I went through some old photos and found a 10-year-old photo Greg and I took at the beach of our feet. I had it printed out and planned to frame it. Ten years later, I met myself halfway and slapped it up above our bed in  our bedroom. It only took me a few additional months to frame it. Sigh.

Humor me here. What projects around the house have you been putting off? What are you waiting for?
