Sun Safe With Goddess Garden Organic Sunscreen

My beach bums last summer

In my most recent natural skincare post, I mentioned that the boys both have sensitive skin. Jayden still deals with small patches of Eczema from time to time and Jaxon’s cheeks flush up when he gets too warm. Now that we’re able to enjoy warmer temps, both of the boys are spending more time outdoors and getting more sun. More time outdoors means it’s time to buckle down on skin protection. What better way to do it than with safe sunscreen? I am happy to share our latest summer finds from Goddess Garden Organics, but first a little back story.

sheenasunburnMy sunscreen awareness began in high school after a rough week at summer band camp. Like several of my peers, I did not prepare for the extended amount of sun exposure by packing sunscreen. By the end of the week, several of us brown folk were a good three shades darker. Our parents were astonished when they were handed children that were extra crispy. My very first week as a freshman in high school was spent shedding a layer and hoping no one noticed my skin flakes. Lesson learned. Brown people NEED sunscreen too.

As an advocate for using gentle products on the boys’ skin, I’ve been torn over the use of sunscreen. With Jayden’s run-in with Eczema, I wanted to make sure that I protected his skin but without being counterproductive. I didn’t want to further irritate his skin with harsh chemicals or damage his skin as a result. So when applying sunscreen on his skin, I was always met with this nagging question of “Should I even be slathering this on his skin?”. Oh and let’s not forget that wonderful, ashy glow.

The information concerning sunscreens can be overwhelming. Did you know that non mineral-based sunscreens contain a chemical that actually absorbs the sun’s rays instead of reflecting them? No thanks! Armed with that information, I started my hunt for safe sunscreens to use on our family. I always appreciate a brand that strives to protect families by using natural ingredients in their products. So when introduced to Goddess Garden Organics, I had to give them a try.

We received a variety of their sunscreens; Sport Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen Lotion, Everyday Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen in a spray can, and Everyday Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen in a trigger squirt bottle. Aside from being a biodegradable, reef safe, and non-nano sunscreen formula, I love that Garden Goddess rubs into our skin completely, leaving only a moisturizing dew. It goes on light and doesn’t leave any residue or stickiness behind. We are very pleased with Garden Goddess and are happy to have their exceptional sunscreens in our summer essentials kit.

I live in a hot, sunny climate and enjoy being outdoors, so I need a good sunscreen. I'd to find a safer sunscreen for my face that has excellent SPF protection that doesn't leave a dry, pasty residue. I love knowing that it's safe to put on my face and it's so convenient to put it on and be able to go straight in the pool.
