The Baby Swing Stays

IMG_6403

This post is sponsored by Fisher-Price. Thanks for supporting the brands that we believe in! P.S. These photos were taken in April, which is why she looks so tiny!

After three kids, we’ve gone through our share of baby gear. Our priorities have gradually changed with each subsequent child. There have been items that we’ve realized that we didn’t really need and there are items that we discovered made life with baby a whole lot easier.

I’ll admit that some pieces we acquired because they were gifts, we thought we needed them, or they simply looked good. Can we all admit to at least wanting at least one fancy item that we’ve seen all over the blogs and parenting magazines? But now that we’ve filled our nest with babies and gear, we are able to see what sticks and what doesn’t. Granted each child may be different, but there’s one item that has stuck with us through all three of the children and that’s the Fisher-Price papasan cradle swings.

There are so many different models, you can’t go wrong snagging one. Back when Jayden was about five months old, a family friend gave us her Nature’s Touch swing. It had lulled a couple of her babies and would then swing all three of mine when I needed time to prepare a meal, shower, and get some work done. This swing had been with us for eight years and was still going strong when baby Akilah made her appearance. The only downside was that it was powered by batteries and but we were going through them like crazy. Still, I was content. Afterall, it was in pristine condition and had held up for so long.

A lot has changed since we were gifts the swing eight years and now the newer models are powered by an AC adapter with the option to use batteries. Being content with what we already had, I didn’t make a stink over having to order more batteries, although those days when we couldn’t use the swing were a little inconvenient. I said I would welcome an upgrade if offered to me though. Being a blogger whose built relationships with household brands, I never know what may come my way.

The folks at Fisher-Price offered to send baby Akilah some of their latest baby gear. Being a brand that I grew up on and trust with my kiddos, I was excited for this collab. The first product I chose was the Sweet Surroundings Cradle ‘n Swing as an upgrade to our older model. Being the princess of the house, honey deserved to swing in style. Our older swing was still in tip-top shape, so we were happy to pass it on to another family. Can you say heirloom status?

The Sweet Surroundings swing is just as awesome as our old papasan swing, but with a fresh new design and extra features. First things first, it plugs into the wall with the option of switching to a battery power pack! Ah, the simple things. I love that we can use the swing all over the house without having to worry about a power source. Other exciting features include a reclining seat that smoothly swivels counter and clockwise. It even vibrates. It’s like a 2-n-1. Hey, sometimes a baby doesn’t feel like swinging and just wants to chill.

The Sweet Surroundings swing features six swing speeds and sixteen songs and soothing sounds. This swing has a whole soundtrack of jams and woosah inspo. Seriously, does this thing come in adult size?

In addition to all of those great functions, the Sweet Surroundings swing is aesthetically pleasing on trend. We have quite a bit of grey and teal in our living room so I appreciate the use of those colors and modern patterns of the swing’s design. Babies are prone to diaper explosions so I love that the cozy seat cover removes easily to go in the wash. This is a feature that I love about all Fisher-Price swings in general. I also adore the uniqueness of the overhead mobile. The use of precision cut felt over the dome and the stitching of the zoo animals gives it a very unique, handmade feel.

Moral of the story… a good quality swing is on the top of my must-have baby gear recommendations. Fisher-Price never disappoints. These swings do take up a bit of space, but so do a lot of other baby things. We live in a small place, so I get it. We never had a nursery and with each baby, we’ve always done away with items. One thing that was non-negotiable, though, was our Fisher-Price swing. Because.

My daughter loves playing with anything that makes noise, especially if it squeaks. My son loves playing with his mobile and trying to make it go around and around.

Our daughter is 3 months old and loves this little light-up kitty that plays music. She gets a big smile on her face while watching it.
