Primetime’s Teachable Moments: Secrets of The Mountain

Winner Announcement: Congrats to Lisa R!

The Secrets of The Mountain Early last month I as well as several of the Walmart Moms had a chance to sit down with the producers of the Secrets of the Mountain for an exclusive viewing in NYC. Secrets of the Mountain is a television movie produced by Walmart and P&G. I know what you’re thinking, “Oh no, not a cheesy made for TV movie full of product placement.” Well, let me tell you, there is product placement; a little heavy towards the beginning, but this movie nonetheless is very well done.

It tells of a single mother and her family dealing with issues brought on by divorce. The mom is a public defender who copes with the divorce by keeping busy at work. Her busy schedule puts a strain on the family’s relationship, but things change as the family goes on a trip to visit the mountain they inherited from their uncle. The trip turns into a quest of teachable moments. It shows the importance of sticking together as a family through life’s trials and triumphs.

With this movie, Walmart and P&G hope to take back primetime family TV by delivering good quality entertainment for families. Remember TGIF? Remember tuning in to ABC every Friday night to watch your favorite family programs? Walmart and P&G are very passionate about this project and they are already working on the next movie. This project will continue if you tune in to the premiere of Secrets of the Mountain April 16, 2010 at 8/7c on NBC. If you have a blog, Twitter, or Facebook account, feel free to post your thoughts. Your feedback (positive or negative) will help Walmart and P&G with future productions.

Take a peek at the trailer. What do you think? You can see what some of The Wamart Moms have to say about the movie here.

Your Baby Can Read: Walmart Edition

Wahmart

Remember the Boogology Jaydenisms?

I’ll wait.

One of the words on that list was “Wahmart” and it has turned into the next best thing that has graced little man’s mouth since “Dat Natny.” It all started on a random day. A Walmart commercial had come on. You know how all of the Walmart commercials end with “Save money. Live better. Walmart.” and then the logo flashes across the screen? Well, Jayden picked that up and repeated “Wahmart”. Of course we thought that was all sorts of mushy gushy cute.

Fast forward to a few days later. We had muted the TV for a commercial break during American Idol. A Walmart commercial had come on and when the logo flashed, he screamed “Wahmart!” or maybe it was “Momart.” Sometimes he says either or. Fast forward even further to last Sunday. My mother and aunt came over. My aunt was carrying a reusauble Walmart shopping bag. He runs over to her, points to the bag, and exclaims “Wahmart!”

I spent last Monday through Wednesday in NYC with fellow Walmart Moms and company. While there, I was given a reusable Walmart shopping bag which was kind of a big deal since Jayden has this new Walmart obsession. I couldn’t wait to give it to him.

It’s the simple things.

Thank Goodness Super Bowl Sunday Is Near

To be completely honest, I am not a fan of football. In high school, I was a member of the marching band. I had to be at every one of those games. I never once paid attention to a game. I never bothered to understand the rules. Greg hadn’t been much of a football enthusiast, but for some reason this year, he decided both professional and college football were the best things ever since throwback jerseys.

Although I have just about had enough of crowds cheering, refs whistling, and Sports Center coming up next, I’ve decided to join Greg on Super Bowl Sunday. We’ll have a mini Game Time Party. I will whoop. I will holla. I will celebrate this special day. We’ll have snacks; I’ll need plenty to get me through. I’m using Walmart’s Game Time Party ideas to help me put together the perfect spread for us. Just look at how much food you can get for under $44!

  • One package of Oscar Mayer Meat Hot Dogs (8 ct.)
  • One package of Johnsonville® Bratwursts (6 ct.)
  • Two packages of Great Value™ Hot Dog Buns
  • Two bags of T.G.I. Friday’s™ Frozen Appetizers
  • One Hormel™ Supreme Party Tray
  • 12” Chocolate Chunk Cookie
  • Two boxes of Nabisco Wheat Thins or Triscuit Crackers (8 to 10 oz. box)

I will definitely be all over those T.G.I. Friday’s Frozen Appetizers. The wings and mozilla sticks, mmm, don’t get me started.

football hd

See that picture up there? That’s how a football game looks on our tv in HD. If we didn’t have an HDTV, I would NOT be as willing to partake in Super Bowl Sunday. In addition to great snack ideas, Walmart is offering full home entertainment installation packages ranging from $99 – $200 so that families can enjoy the game in crystal-clear goodness.

So who are you rooting for? Or do you even care? I know one thing is for sure, someone is going to be spending a lot of time rooting for Suzanne Whang, ’cause House Hunters is about to be in HEAVY rotation! I love you, hounz!

FYI: Walmart provided me with two Walmart gift cards for my participation in this program.
