Tuesday’s Mini Playdate

Tuesday’s mini playdate was a success! Why mini? Well, because there were 10 kids missing. Whoa, right? But families go on vacations, kids get sick, and important errands must be run. Such is life during the busy summer months. But I’m looking forward to getting together with more of our group in the next week or two :).

So back to Tuesday. The weather was just fine and it didn’t rain. The weather predictions have been so inaccurate lately, but I just knew that the day I’d host an outdoor playdate, it would rain. Mother Nature, thankfully, was on my side. She brought over her two little darlings and she came over to hang out. It’s been a month or maybe two since we’ve last seen each other, so it was nice to catch up. On the menu were donut muffins and sugar cookies that I baked Monday night, grilled burgers and hotdogs, fruit, juices and Starbucks VIA.

The kids had a blast playing together and there were definitely some favorite toys. The Super Soaker and Triple Hit Baseball toy. You’d think the Craftsman truck, right? There were so many toys, that it was only natural for some of them to sit, but they will be played with the next time we get together.

Lily was a fearless little diva, plopping into the pool in her clothes, as soon as she arrived. Jonah showed us his expert bug catching skills, and Jayden wore that poor Super Soaker out. It was a good day! Many of the toys featured in our playdate have been reccomended on Kmart’s Playdate Place blog. Check them out!

I don’t want this post to get too photo heavy, so I put together a little video of clips and photos from the day :).

Looks like the kids had a ton of fun. This means a lot to them at their age and you will be surprised that they will remember it for years and years to come!

I like that you did the video, it loads so fast that way (and probably doesn’t take up a lot of your bandwidth?). Your little one is always so cute. The toys look very age-appropriate. I’m thinking roller skates for my little one’s birthday this year (Sept.).

This is so cute! When our son was young, we had a group of 4 kids that had a weekly playdate! Fun for the kids, and a little break for the moms the weeks they were “off”!

The super soaker would be MY favorite.

Love this idea-developing social skills is very important in little ones!

You are really brave. I don’t even like having that many adults around, unless there is something to do…

My daughter is 4. She has started asking for playdates with some of her class mates (she goes to preschool) but I just haven’t gotten around to setting any up…but then again, neither have any of the other parents. I think it’s time to make time to all get together!

I had to laugh about Mother Nature and the possibility of rain, because I have had terrible luck with that lately. We had a Homeowners Association picnic, and even though it was nothing but sun before and after, it rained on the day of the picnic. And then my neighbor decided to do her once-a-year yard sale, and it rained. I put my kids in the double stroller to take them into town, and it rained. And I check Weather.com every day, and I still manage to get rained on !

Looks like the kids had a great time despite the small turnout! Would love to know more about those donut muffins as well. :)

  • Martha says:

10 kids missing or no, I think any playdate is a success if someone gets in the pool with their clothes on.

  • Suzy says:

That looks like so much fun! I wish I was a little kid. That sounds like a beautiful summer day that should be remembered and treasured. =]

  • trishden says:

I think it looks like a lot of fun, even if you had a bunch of no-shows!

  • Krista says:

Looks like fun! Isn’t it amazing how some toys are timeless? My cousins and I loved the Super Soakers 25 years ago! =)

  • Lori Z. says:

The baseball tee looks fun. You definitely did a lot more prep than any playdate I’ve ever hosted–perhaps I should get on the ball.

  • Erin M. says:

No fair! My daughter was always tall for her age. . .so she could never ride one of those kid-cars!

  • Ane says:

Cute! I love playdates…but I have six kids so every day is like a play date..lol! :)

  • Steph says:

too cute! love the water photos!

  • I had such a good time! thank you!!

  • Ahhh! Kids that have no fear of playing with bugs freak me out! How are they so brave? I don’t think they’ve got the “disgust” gland in their brain working yet.
