Louisville is a popular hot spot for horse lovers and baseball enthusiasts. Known as the legendary home of the Kentucky Derby, Muhammad Ali’s hometown, and the bourbon capital, there’s plenty of things to see and do in the city of Louisville. Louisville is full of exciting attractions that the whole family can enjoy. It was no question why we chose Louisville as a weekend road trip destination.
On a whim we decided to celebrate Jayden’s 6th birthday in Louisville. We had a few places in mind within a 300 mile radius and Louisville came in first place. We had just a short sampling of the city, but we definitely had a great time during the three days we spent adventuring through the town.
On Friday afternoon, we loaded up the Sienna, picked Jayden up from school, grabbed a bite to eat, and hit the road. Check out the cargo space, y’all. #cargospaceonfleek
The boys were stoked to be able to watch their favorite movies from the back seat. And Mommy and Daddy didn’t have to partake in any listening since they had their very own pair of wireless headphones. Jayden quickly became acclimated with the DVD player and made his headphones and powering the device a priority whenever he got into the van.
I had to refer to the Sienna Bible to familiarize myself with a few features.
I’m so fancy.
We arrived in Louisville in a little over 4 hours. Since we decided to visit during one of Louisville’s busiest times (the week before the derby), hotel options were slim. We were able to book a room at the Baymont Inn further away from the main attractions, but it was still a good choice for our family and budget. When we checked in, Jayden couldn’t help but show off “his baby” to the receptionist and customers behind us. He loves him some Juice.
As soon as we stepped into our room, the Juicy one couldn’t resist doing what he does best… investigate. Juicy-proofing was definitely in order. We hid the phone and put the trashcans up high. We realized that we hadn’t packed any toys for him, so toys were on our list of things to grab at the local Walmart.
We settled in for a bit and browsed a few local restaurants online. We decided to pre-order Roosters for pickup. As you can imagine, they were pretty busy on a Friday night. To kill some time, we decided to grab a few groceries from Walmart. From Roosters, we ordered the Garlic and Mild Boneless Wings as well as some Little Chicks’ meals for the boys. They definitely hit the spot.
After our meal, we prepared for bed and the fun day ahead.

Weekending In Louisville: Day 2
Stay // Baymont Inn & Suites Louisville Airport South
Pros: Good customer service, practical, clean, budget friendly for our impromptu trip.
Cons: Stashed away from the main Louisville scene, smell of cigarette smoke lingered in bathroom. It may have been coming in through the vent. It certainly wasn’t a deal-breaker, but I’m sensitive to smoke and prefer it to not be in my/our lungs, yanno? These are things y’all want to know, right? :)
Eat // Roosters Wings
Pros: Finger lickin’ good.
This post was in partnership with Toyota who provided us with a Sienna to drive and a stipend for activities throughout the #SiennaDiaries campaign. We also received complimentary tickets to attractions courtesy of the folks at Louisville. Per usual, all opinions are my own.
