4 Different Types of Flooring You Will Love

Floors are one of the most underappreciated parts of any home. A floor can completely change the way any space looks and feels. It can give it a very refined appearance, while it can also make it extremely practical.

Figuring out what type of floor is best for your home is a massive decision that requires a lot of research. To help you out in this endeavor, we’ve put together a list of 4 types of flooring you’ll simply fall in love with.

Hardwood Floors

Hard floors are the go-to choice for those who want top-notch quality, and more importantly, a timeless aesthetic. Certainly, hardwood flooring is all about bringing a hint of nature directly into your home. This type of floor adds an aspect of timeless style and classic architecture to any room. There are many types of hardwood floors as well, meaning that you’re not limited to one type of material or a single type of flooring design.

All of this leaves you with plenty of options when it comes to choosing something that complements your overall interior design. The difference between the two types of wood is more than enough to completely change the way a room fitted with hardwood flooring looks.

The best thing about this type of flooring is that it’s not prohibitively expensive. Is it more expensive than laminate flooring? Sure, but it also lasts longer and offers a wide range of benefits you won’t often get from laminates.

The only actual negative to hardwood floors is their sensitivity to water damage. If you let water get into the lumber used to make your hardwood floors, that entire room will have to be redone sooner rather than later.

Hybrid Flooring

One of the most recent innovations in the world of interior flooring technologies is hybrid flooring. Floor Venue’s website offers a good explanation as to what this technology brings to the table. In short, you’re getting the benefits of low-cost installation akin to standard laminate flooring, combined with the resilience and water resistance of much more durable flooring materials.

Best of all, the aesthetic appearance of hybrid floors is just incredible. You’re getting something that can easily pass for hardwood flooring and is every bit as durable if not more. This type of flooring is currently gaining in popularity in markets where weather conditions and humidity levels make the use of standard flooring less than ideal.

Parquet Flooring

Parquet flooring is loosely connected to hardwood flooring, but it brings a whole different level of finesse to the equation. Parquet flooring dates back to the 16th century when it was first invented in France. Back then, master craftsmen dedicated great amounts of effort to fabricating and installing small pieces of wood, thus creating complex geometric shapes.

Modern parquet flooring hasn’t changed much since then as far as the core concepts go. Of course, the materials, production, and installation techniques have changed completely. Even so, modern parquet flooring is still expensive and requires installation by a skilled expert. Despite all that, there is rarely anything better and more aesthetically pleasing than a perfectly laid-out parquet floor.

Laminate Floors

Laminate flooring is the cheapest and most utilitarian option on this list. Many look down on laminate floors, seeing them as a low-cost alternative to more durable solutions. That being said, not all laminate flooring is created equal.

There are laminate tiles out there that will last a lifetime and be virtually indistinguishable from hardwood flooring. It all depends on how much money you’re willing to spend and what you need your laminate flooring to accomplish.

Even an average laminate floor can be a valuable investment, given that the room is properly prepared and leveled. When installed correctly, this type of flooring will have zero give. Additionally, a properly installed laminate won’t have that hollow sound that many find so annoying.

What About Tiles?

Tiles are the honorable mention that didn’t make the list since we’ve decided to focus on wood or wood derivative flooring for the most part. Tiles offer all kinds of benefits and can be the missing piece that ties a whole interior design together. However, tiles are also not as practical as wooden floors. You have to be careful not to damage tiles, especially if they’re made of traditional ceramics.

Choose the Floor That Fits Your Needs

One thing to remember about modern flooring materials is that you can get a great aesthetic from just about any of the options listed above. The best way to figure out which floor will work best in your house is to sit down and list everything you want on a floor.

Does it have to be sturdy and durable, or just look nice? Is budget an issue? How hard is it to install? Answering these questions will allow you to find the right solution for your home.
