Up Close and Personal with My Teeth

015
Today, I’m letting y’all get up close and personal. With my teeth. Quite often, I am complimented on my smile and I LOVE that, so please keep doing it, thanks :). Inside my mouth, I do have a few offenses, besides the numerous fillings from childhood, that I am looking to correct. I have an overbite and some crowding.

Invisalign: teeth audition

Exhibit A (Awkward!)

Not bad, but I want them fixed stat. I’m not self conscious about my teeth, I am just a teeth girl. I love seeing people with great teeth. I know how hard it is sometimes to maintain perfection, so when I see a person with a great pair of choppers, I’m like, “Wow, that’s hot” in a platonic kinda way. I’m not one to judge or favor someone because of their teeth, but I do believe that my teeth are an important part of my presentation. They speak my health and habits. And I’m about due for a whitening. Often times, I have dreams that my teeth are falling out and I’m freaking out and crying in the mirror. Don’t laugh at me. I am SO serious right now. Losing teeth at an early age has run in my family, so I obsess just a teensy bit about mine.

Getting braces is on my life list and I’m hoping to get them on soon. My goal is no later than late 2012. Since I’ve never had braces before, I didn’t have a preference over metal braces or the Invisalign treatment when initially deciding to get them. Appearance wise I didn’t care because I knew that the end result would be the same. When I met Greg, he had metal braces and I thought they were so sexy. I know, I must be a weirdo, lol. For a while I was team metal braces because I assumed that they were cheaper than Invisalign, but it all truly depends on the condition of your teeth and doctors in your area. So I could actually be able to get Invisalign for around the same range as metal braces. The cost of Invisalign treatment ranges from $3,500 to $8,000, with the national average at about $5,000.

I think what really caused me to cross over to team Invisalign was the fact that Invisalign doesn’t require any painful tightening. The Invisalign G3 makes it easier for orthodontists and dentists to treat people with complex cases so they can enjoy the benefits of straightening their teeth without the discomfort and embarrassment often associated with metal (or fixed) braces. Greg told me about the days he’d get his braces tightened and how it left his mouth so sore and unable to chew food. I like to eat and I am a beast when I am hungry. So I don’t know about all that tightening talk. Mommy need not be a beast.

Not only does Invisalign cater to adults, but teens too. They are ideal for teens because besides no discomfort, they are virtually invisible, so teens can feel comfortable around their peers. How many of you heard phrases like “brace face” or “metal mouth”? Yeah. No child wants to have to deal with being called those names. Or how about getting food stuck in their teeth and trying to find time to pick it out in between classes? Greg went through that. Invisalign allows teens to maintain normal, healthy hygiene during treatment and they can eat what they want. They can remove them and pop them back on whenever they would need to. Invisalign Teen treatment is ideal for busy parents too because there are never any emergency appointments caused by broken wires or brackets. And children spend less time at the orthodontist’s office, with fewer appointments. Teens can resume normal activities such as sports or band practice without discomfort. I think I am sold on Invisilgn for myself and Jayden when he gets older. It would be cool to document my progress and share it with him once it’s his turn! Of course there’d be like Invisalign G6 with Terra Nova-like laser coating by then :).

Oh Lord, Girl. You KNOW you have great teeth if you let the world all up in there!! Lol!! You DO - nice teeth, smile, etc.  I have always been somewhat self-conscious about my smile cause I have big teeth. Then there's the family 'gap' that I've inherited; now as I've gotten older, my teeth have just chosen to do their own thing - moving & shifting. Sigh... braces have long been on my wishlist, but now, I have gum problems so that's not happening. Sigh... keep up your beautiful smile :-)
