Fall Pumpkin Planter

099

Decorating for fall is one of my absolute favorite things to do, next to decorating for Christmas of course. Each year, I add something new to my collection. This year, I decided to make a planter for our very small porch. I’ve been wanting to spruce up the awkward front entrance of our townhome, so I thought some flowers would liven things up a bit. This project literally took me ten minutes, if that. Take a look. :-)

MATERIALS

All of these supplies can be found at Walmart.
4 Mini Mum Plants
1 Plastic Pumpkin
Potting Soil
1 Scarecrow Pick (optional)
Knife

Instructions

First, I cut a decent-sized hole in the top of my pumpkin. I did a second cut to widen it a bit and poked a few holes in the bottom for drainage. You can find the plastic pumpkins in the Halloween aisle of Walmart. You can use a treat bucket as well for a more kid-friendly look or you can spruce them up with spray paint or burlap.

Next, I removed the mums from the pots and carefully packed them into the pumpkin. I worked in some extra soil to fill in minor gaps. To add a more festive vibe to the planter, I added a scarecrow pick that I found a few years ago.

I love how this pumpkin planter turned out. It’s amazing how much of a difference something so simple can make. If only I had more room to set out a few more. In due time… I’ll stick to one for now, and hope I remember to water it! Haha!

Are you working on any outdoor fall decor? I’d love to hear about your projects!
