The Start Of Something New: A Cutting Garden

I entered spring unsure if I wanted to manage a garden, but as time went on, my passion for plants wouldn’t allow me to miss out on some much-needed plant therapy. This year, I’ve decided not to grow veggies, but to focus on having a cutting garden of flowers and maybe some herbs. My goal is to be able to set it and forget it as to keep things chill, yet colorful.

To pretty up the space around our raised bed and future cutting garden, I planted the most gorgeous Asiatic lilies and Dahlia flowers that I found at Lowe’s. These beauties were grown by Monrovia, whom I’ve heard great things about last year. Monrovia offers premium quality plants that last longer and perform better with less effort. Less effort… hello! Less effort should be my focus words for 2017. With three kiddos and three businesses, I need all the self-sustaining things. As much as I love plants and flowers, I’m bound to neglect them so I appreciate hardy varieties that will love me even when I go astray.

Juicy is excited about the garden and helping out. He was gifted a pinwheel and garden tool set so he is ready to enjoy time out in the front yard. Once we get seeds and possibly more Monrovia plants down (because goooorgeous!), I will share more of our space. Seriously, if it weren’t cold and rainy when I went shopping, I would have spent more time admiring Monrovia’s colorful palette of blooms. I’ll definitely be making my way back to Lowe’s on a sunny weekend for more.

Meanwhile, I need to look for our windsock and spray paint some flamingos left over from Akilah’s first birthday. Yes, there will be flamingos in our yard. No shame in my game.

These flowers are so pretty! We have roses in front of our house entry way and some hyyacinths. I wish I have more time to do gardening.

I'm an apartment dweller so unfortunately no gardening for me! At best I can "plant" a few herbs or plants on my windowsill but it's not really the same.

The Stargazer (Asian Lily) is so pretty. I like the one that is a solid deep red in color. My mom has them and I have to learn how to care for them first before I ask for a seedling. I will have to check out Monrovia and see what other plants I can get.
